British & Irish Weather Explained!
Probably
the most common question we are asked relates
to the 'best' time to travel to 'guarantee' good
weather on a golf trip to the Britain or Ireland.
Take it from someone who grew up in that part
of the world... the answer is that there is no
good time, or bad time, to travel to 'guarantee'
good weather during the main British/Irish golf
season, which is generally considered to be April
through October.
There is a common misconception that the British/Irish
summer follows a similar pattern to the North
American climate i.e. that the warmest and sunniest
months are June, July and August. The reality
is that your chances of good weather versus bad
weather, do not vary a great deal throughout the
primary golf season, April to October. Similarly,
the average temperature does not typically vary
a great deal during this time.
In practical terms, your chances of wearing either
a sweater or golf shirt can be just as good in
July as they can in late April or early October.
One only has to watch the British Open on TV to
confirm that all weather conditions are possible
during a British/Irish 'summer'. Our advice for
travel throughout the main golf season therefore
is to plan for sweater weather, hope for golf
shirt weather and always pack a rain suit... just
in case!
